The 5-Minute Summer Flatmate Check-In
Avoid drama this summer with this super easy flat plan:
Bathroom
Check for mould or damp on walls/ceilings
Make sure extractor fan is working (report if not)
Wipe down tiles & sealant to prevent black mould
Clear hair from shower/bath plugholes
Check for slow drainage (report early!)
Electrics & Appliances
Test kitchen sockets and switches
Check kettle, toaster, microwave for faults or smells
Run a quick clean on the washing machine (drum & tray)
Don’t overload plugs or use daisy-chained extension leads
Check that lights and bulbs work (replace or report)
Ventilation & Windows
Open windows briefly every day to reduce condensation
Wipe condensation off windows & sills
Report stiff windows or broken locks/latches
Check vents aren’t blocked by furniture or clutter
Kitchen & Plumbing
Check under sink for leaks or damp patches
Make sure taps don’t drip overnight
Clear food from plugholes to avoid smells/blockages
Check dishwasher/washing machine hoses aren’t leaking
Bins & Hygiene
Take out bins regularly (avoid fly/rodent issues)
Clean bin lids and areas around them
Keep outdoor area (if any) tidy - no bin overflow
General Maintenance
Check for any cracks or damage to walls, skirting, doors Flag noisy plumbing or electrical humming Keep entrance and exits clear for safety Report any pest sightings (mice, bugs) ASAP
